The WEA Member Benefits Foundation is leading an initiative to fund school district mental health programs throughout the state. Random Lake is one of 28 school districts that the Foundation is funding. Steve stated "that Random Lake School District was chosen to be one of the partners in this effort because the District has a very well-deserved reputation throughout the state for its comprehensive approach to student and educator mental health." He continued to say that the District's "counselor to student ratio is one of the healthiest in the state" and we "have on-site counselors and a school psychologist" making it easier for students to access services when needed. Mr. Goldberg also praised the District for integrating important mental and behavioral health practices into the curriculum and culture of the schools, which have resulted in reduced chronic absenteeism, reduced behavioral referrals, and have drastically shortened the waiting list/wait time for students who need an appointment. Mr. Goldberg stated that the Foundation admires the cultural impact Random Lake School District's practices have had and are using those examples to help other school districts achieve similar results.
