Random Lake Military Wall of Honor

As the Random Lake School District prepares for their Veterans Day Ceremony this year, it has an honorable addition to be proud of:  a brand new Military Wall of Honor.  On display in the new district foyer, it showcases the six different branches of the military, with a name plaque for each of the Random Lake alumni who served their country.

It began as an Eagle Scout project for Garett Kawczynski, a past student of the district.  He designed and built the cases for the names while working with the architects of the school’s recent renovation project.  It continued with a search for names of veteran alumni to put on the wall.  Backtracking all the way to the Civil War, about 350 names have been collected thus far, with more still coming in.   Each alumni veteran’s name and graduation year has been printed on a silver name plate and placed under the branch of the military to which they belonged. Name plates for  those most recently and continuously  collected will be added at a later date.

Names of Civil War and World War I veterans will also have name plates added at a later date.  While many of them probably did not graduate from high school, their service was deemed important and they will be included.

Four community members have given the ultimate sacrifice of life while serving, three during war and one during a practice exercise.  Those four are recognized with a gold name plaque.

The School District of Random Lake is proud to recognize these individuals who have done so much for our country and community. If you know of a Random Lake alumni who is also a veteran, but is not included on the wall, please contact 920-447-3067 leaving a name and phone number.

In addition to the Veteran’s Day Ceremony on the November 11th at 9am, we will also be hosting a dinner for any Random Lake Alumni who is a veteran on Monday, November 10th in the evening.  If you are interested in joining us for the gathering, please call  920-447-3067 to make a reservation.
