As we recognize May as Mental Health Awareness Month, the Random Lake School District reaffirms its commitment to the emotional well-being of every student. In a world where children and teens are navigating more stress than ever before, our schools have become a place where mental health is not only supported, it’s prioritized.
At Random Lake, we believe that when students feel safe, supported, and seen, they’re empowered to reach their full potential. That’s why emotional wellness is at the heart of the community we’re building, inside every classroom, hallway, and conversation.
Our partnership with the PATH (Providing Access To Healing) Program is one of the many ways we’re turning that belief into action. PATH offers professional mental health services right inside our schools, giving students access to care during the school day without the added barriers of cost, transportation, or waitlists. But the true impact of PATH goes far beyond therapy sessions, it’s helping create a culture of openness, trust, and deep connection in our school community.
You can feel the difference. Students are learning not just how to succeed academically, but how to care for themselves and others emotionally. They’re opening up, asking for help, and showing one another that vulnerability is a strength.
As Brianna Heusterberg, Director of Youth Mental Health Strategy & PATH, shared:
“Our partnership really prioritizes making kids feel heard. They create a space where students feel safe expressing themselves, where their voices matter. It’s not just about checking a box for mental health support, it’s about truly investing in the emotional well-being of the whole child.”
This commitment sets Random Lake apart. Our staff, counselors, and PATH therapists work together to support the whole child, recognizing that behind every assignment and test is a student with thoughts, feelings, and a unique story. It’s this kind of intentional care that helps students not just survive, but truly thrive.
We’ve seen the difference in our classrooms, our hallways, and in the words of our students. One student reflected that PATH helped them see their worth again, and that the support they received reminded them why life is worth living. These moments are why we do this work.
As we observe Mental Health Awareness Month, we celebrate the strength it takes to speak up, the courage it takes to seek help, and the compassion that defines our school community.
