Students sitting on couches

On Friday, March 1st, both the Random Lake Middle School and Random Lake High School participated in National Unplugged Day. Students took a break from their devices, meaning phones, computers, watches, and earbuds were stowed for the day. All of their devices, except computers, were kept in their lockers or turned into the school first thing in the morning. Teachers were able to use their computers for school purposes but also took a break from their phones.

The School District of Random Lake is hoping this teaches students how to connect with one another without the use of social media. Not having the temptation of having their phones right next to them at all times can cause them to interact with their peers in person, not through a screen. Social media is known to have many positive and negative effects on this generation and the school is hoping to show students there is so much more than what is on social media. As the day concluded, students were happy to have their devices back, but also reflected on the experience without them.
